Dr Thomas Dowling studied Physical Geography at Durham University, before moving on to a masters in Environmental Science: Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing at the University of Cambridge. He completed his PhD at Lund University in February 2016 and is now based in London.

He specialises in environmental analysis via remote platforms and enjoys solving spatially related problems in innovative and new ways. The main tools used are the ESRI Arc suites, the OSGeo suites, ENVI Imagine, Matlab/R, AgisoftPhotoscan and Python.

  • GIS and remote sensing
  • Glaciers and glaciation
  • Geospatial machine learning
  • Thermal remote sensing
  • Remote sensing for agriculture

Thomas' broad research interest is the application of GIS, earth observation and machine learning techniques to environmental and human problems at the local to global scale.
