Biography

Yamiko Msosa is a Research Fellow in Health Informatics at King’s College London, based at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN).

He joined King’s in 2019 and works within the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre, focusing on digital health, electronic health records (EHRs), artificial intelligence (AI), natural language processing (NLP), and GeoAI to enhance clinical decision‑support, care pathways, and population‑level analytics in mental health.

His research integrates applied health data science, clinical informatics, and public health informatics to support innovation in data‑driven healthcare and health system strengthening.

Yamiko’s expertise includes national‑scale digital health systems, geospatial modelling, health information systems architecture, and data engineering. He has provided international consultancy for organisations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), VitalWave, and the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), contributing to initiatives involving digital global goods, interoperability, and geospatial accessibility modelling.

His work with WHO has included applying GeoAI and Spatial Analytics to inform strategic planning and service optimisation for health emergency response programmes.

Alongside his research, Yamiko is a co‑module lead for the Health Informatics module on the Applied Statistical Modelling and Health Informatics MSc at King’s, contributing to curriculum design and teaching across digital health and informatics.

He holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Cape Town, an MSc in Computer Science (Software Engineering) from the University of Essex, and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Keele University. He has contributed to technical reports, policy papers, and collaborative research outputs at the intersection of digital health and applied AI.

Expertise and public engagement

  • Work includes developing technical and policy papers, advising on digital health and large‑scale health information systems, and supporting the integration of AI, NLP, and GeoAI for analytics, decision‑support, and service planning.
  • Also contributes to expert panels and advisory boards shaping digital and data strategy across global health settings.
