If you're a small or medium business leader looking to boost your leadership skills alongside your business’s performance, our Help to Grow: Management course is here for you. Whether you need to identify more efficient ways of working, target new markets, or create a plan to take your business and team to the next level, this course will provide the key knowledge and support you'll need. This short course has been created by the Chartered Association of Business Schools and is 90% funded by the Department of Business and Trade, meaning that as an SME business leader, you'll only pay £750.

Course features

The Help to Grow: Management course will equip you with the business expertise that will lead to increasing your company’s capabilities, build relationships with other leaders and achieve long-term sustainable growth. This course runs over 12 modules, including eight online taught modules and four face-to-face case study modules – purposefully designed to fit around the existing work of a busy SME leader. To further develop your understanding and application, there are also smaller Peer Group meetings and a 1:1 mentorship.

This course will teach strategy and innovation and refine your vision, mission and values. You will typically invest three hours minimum per week, consisting of a two-hour online taught module and a one-hour Peer Group meeting. The programme has been structured into four themed stages to cover key business management topics:

  • Strategies for growth and innovation.
  • Engaging with customers.
  • Building a sustainable and agile business.
  • Operations and financial strategies.

Our expertise

The course is taught by a range of top King's Business School faculty across a breadth of business disciplines, led by Programme Director Julian Glyn-Owen.

Julian is a qualified teacher and has worked in Executive Education for over 15 years. He holds a Fellowship with Kings Business School in Leadership and contributes to a range of the School’s Executive programmes and initiatives.

Entry requirements

As this course is taught entirely in English, it is essential that you’re able to converse, interact and write in English. To be eligible for the Help to Grow: Management course, you should also:

  • Work for a small or medium-sized enterprise based in the United Kingdom.
  • Employ between 5-249 employees.
  • Be a member of the senior leadership team and have direct reports.

The course has been carefully designed to maximise learning time, covering:

  • Guidance on developing a business growth plan.
  • 1:1 support from a business mentor.
  • Peer group learning sessions.
  • Access to an alumni network and associated events..

The course fee includes access to the course and all materials for six months, including a detailed workbooks and a range of contemporary articles, readings and activities to support your learning. On completion of the course, you will receive a certificate of completion alongside a downloaded workbook and personal development plan containing your learnings, and a new network from your participant group.
