Course overview

The objective of this module is to enable students to develop an understanding of sustainability in its widest context. Through the lens of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, students will gain the knowledge and skills to evaluate the impact of social inequality, and the climate crisis on human health and will consider the impact of healthcare itself on the environmental, social, and economic wellbeing of the biosphere. This can contribute to workforce planning and organisational resilience. The module culminates in the production of a digital presentation and a reflection, that identifies an appropriate UN Sustainable Development Goal and apply this to the healthcare system in their home country.

Course features

By the end of this short course, you will be able to:

Critically evaluate the link between planetary and human health and the impact of inequality and unsustainable practices on communities locally, nationally and globally
Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of environmental, social and economic sustainability in healthcare using the United Nation’s Sustainable
Critically appraise the principles of sustainability in its widest context, including resource allocation, care force planning, energy consumption, and waste generation, ethical procurement and service delivery
Demonstrate a commitment to improving health outcomes through sustainability literacy, leadership and innovation, by an embodying an agent of change to nurture a culture of environmental consciousness, global citizenship and health promotion
