Social, Genetic & Developmental Psychiatry Centre

Social, Genetic & Developmental Psychiatry Centre is an interdisciplinary research centre that focuses on how genetics ('nature') and the environment ('nurture') interact to affect psychiatric disorders, neurodevelopmental conditions, and individual differences across development. The Centre’s focus is on common psychiatric disorders and neurodevelopmental conditions that emerge in childhood and adolescence, such as mood disorders, ‘externalising’ disorders, and neurocognitive conditions.

Biostatistics & Health Informatics

The Biostatistics & Health Informatics Department is a major force in the development of quantitative methodology as applied to mental health research. With significant national and international collaborations, the department has growing impact into all areas of medicine, particularly through expertise in trials and software development. The department is a leader in the education of methodology, applied statistics and health informatics.

Health Service & Population Research

The Health Service & Population Research Department conducts world-leading research and education using the social and health sciences to better understand and improve health outcomes, systems, and care, both locally and globally, particularly in disadvantaged and marginalised populations. The department is multi-disciplinary, and includes health care professionals, epidemiologists, economists, implementation scientists, qualitative methodologists, service users, social scientists and statisticians.

Psychology

The Department of Psychology is at the forefront of research into clinical practice, with research interests spanning a wide range of mental health disorders and physical health problems, including anxiety disorders, trauma, somatoform disorders, pain, psychosis, depression, antisocial personality, disorders in childhood and adolescence, emotion and personality, and neurodegeneration.
