Postgraduate research

Postgraduate research in Mental Health & Psychological Sciences

The IoPPN is one of the world’s leading centres for mental health and related neurosciences research. We are the world’s second most cited institution carrying out psychiatry and psychology research, with 22 of the most highly cited scientists in this field in the world. All of our postgraduate research students operate in world-class facilities, and benefit from fantastic support networks and training opportunities, including the Researcher Development Programme (RDP). The RDP provides our students with a range of training and development courses, aimed at enhancing personal, professional and career skills. PhDs can be studied on a full-time or part-time basis. However, they must be completed within an agreed period of time (usually three to four years for a full-time student).

By choosing the School of Mental Health & Psychological Sciences you will obtain first class research training in a vibrant multidisciplinary research community. Each department within the School of Mental Health & Psychological Sciences offers postgraduate research opportunities.

Prospective students

We offer two different routes in postgraduate research study: MPhil/PhD and MD(Res).
