Ethical and legal aspects of clinical decision making and end of life care

Aims

Advance knowledge in the field of bioethics to help develop feasible ethical frameworks for paediatric critical care policy and practice.  To improving the knowledge and skills of paediatric critical care clinicians in the ethical and legal aspects of clinical decision making and end of life care.

  • Ethical decision-making frameworks for complex cases in paediatric critical care
  • Models of end-of-life care in critically ill children
  • Bioethics and law in paediatric critical care training

Leadership

  • Miriam Fine-Goulden, GSTT Clinical Lead for Child Death, member of: Paediatric Critical Care Society Council, NHS England Clinical Reference Group for Paediatric Critical Care, Professional Advisory Group for the National Child Mortality Group, executive committee of the Association of Child Death Review Professionals, the RCPCH working group to revise the framework for practice for making decisions to limit treatment in life-limiting and life-threatening conditions in children. Currently studying for an MA in Medical Ethics and Law at KCL, Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer KCL.
