Physical and Environmental Geography research group

Our research focusses on the interactions between the Earth’s hydrological, geomorphological, atmospheric and ecological processes. This work encompasses a wide range of environments, including arid/semi-arid areas and aeolian environments, urban environments and closed-canopy forests (tropical and high latitude), as well as lakes, estuaries, rivers and the riparian zone.

We explore these at different geographical scales and in the context of current and future implications of changing climate and land use, and other anthropogenic interventions.

To monitor these interactions, we use innovative, interdisciplinary methods. We are pioneers in linking computer-based simulation modelling and laboratory experimental work to field environmental monitoring campaigns using both in situ sensor networks and satellite/airborne remote sensing.
