Randomised clinical trials are considered the gold standard way of testing if a new treatment works or not. The Trials Methodology Research Group is focussed on improving the design, conduct and analysis of clinical trials for the benefit of participants, researchers, and others who use the evidence to make decisions about healthcare.

We have a focus on designing efficient trials in mental health, where the ability to identify an effective (or ineffective) treatment quickly with optimal use of resources is crucial. We work with the Causal Analysis and Evaluation group to develop statistical methods to answer causal questions in clinical trials. We work closely with the Mental Health Statistics group to apply our new methodological findings into applied research with clinical collaborators. We meet on the second Thursday of each month at 10:00.
