About

Communications, publication and dissemination strategy

Our values

At the NIHR Health & Social Care Workforce Research Unit:

  • We recognise the importance of disseminating research and the value of publishing in leading journals in the field.

  • We appreciate that dissemination requires a proactive approach and hard work and this is recognised in appraisals and other measurements.

  • We hold that publication is necessary to advance the quality of social care research and take the opportunity to disseminate publications on methods and research approaches.

  • We are committed to dissemination and demonstrate this by encouraging staff to develop skills in this area individually and collectively.

  • We offer support to others in publishing, within the limits of our resources.

Purpose and function

  • Our publications meet the requirements of funders.

  • Our publications underpin our research strategy and connect across our activities.

  • Our publications add to the evidence base of social care.

  • Our publications are well publicised in the sector and on key databases.

  • Our publications are tailormade to our audiences: policy makers, academic communities, practitioners and managers, users and carers, children and families, trainers, educators and students.

  • We collaborate with our research partners in dissemination.

  • Our publications facilitate further analysis.

  • Our publications are timely, with interim as well as final reports.

Form and content

  • We acknowledge the participants in and the funders of our research.

  • We place more emphasis on disseminating from our major studies than smaller.

  • We tailor dissemination to different audiences.

  • We seek different forms of multimedia communication: the written word, spoken and electronic formats.
