Literature review for the Professional Standards Authority

The Professional Standards Authority is responsible for overseeing the UK’s nine health and care professional regulatory bodies, including the Health and Care Professions Council which regulates social work in England. It has commissioned a literature review from SCWRU on the roles and issues within the social work profession in England to help inform its work.

2014 – 2015

Research team

Jo Moriarty, Mary Baginsky and Jill Manthorpe (SCWRU)

Professional Standards Authority

A scoping review of the literature from England and relevant material from the other UK countries and from international sources has been undertaken.

Outputs for refereed and professional journals will follow the publication of the report:

Moriarty, J., Baginsky, M. & Manthorpe, J. (2015) 'Literature review of roles and issues within the social work profession in England', London: Professional Standards Authority. [See also: Public views on social workers and roles and issues within the profession at the PSA]

As well as sharing findings with the regulator, we hope to share the findings more widely within the social work profession and social worker commissioners.
