The Senior Leadership Team provide strategic direction and focus for the School of Security Studies.
Led by the Head of the School of Security Studies, Professor Wyn Bowen, supported by the Dean of Research Impact, Dean of Academic Studies, Head of Administration and Head of Admnistration (Operations).
Wyn Bowen is Head of the School of Security Studies, King's College London, comprising the Defence Studies Department and the Department of War Studies. From April 2014 to August 2016, he was Head of Department/Dean of Academic Studies of the Defence Studies Department, based at the Joint Services Command and Staff College (JSCSC) at the UK Defence Academy.
Prior to April 2014, he was Director of CSSS (2007-2014). Bowen has been a Senior Research Associate in the Center for Nonproliferation Studies, Middlebury Institute of International Studies (1995-1997) and a Centre Associate of the Matthew B. Ridgway Centre for International Studies, University of Pittsburgh.
Michael Goodman is Professor of Intelligence and International Affairs, Head of the Department of War Studies and Dean of Research Impact, King's College London. He is also a Visiting Professor at the Norwegian Defence Intelligence School and at Sciences Po in Paris.
He has recently finished a secondment to the Cabinet Office where he has been the Official Historian of the Joint Intelligence Committee: Volume II which will be published in 2020.
Dr Robert Foley is Dean of Academic Studies/Head of Department at the Defence Studies Department, based at the Joint Services Command and Staff College (JSCSC) at the Defence Academy of the UK.
He first taught at the Defence Studies Department from 2000 to 2005, and rejoined the department as a reader in September 2012 after seven years at the School of History, University of Liverpool. He is co-director of the First World War Research Group, and administers the Department’s research blog.
Mary joined the Defence Studies Department in September 2014 from the School of Politics, Economics & International Relations at the University of Reading. Prior to this she worked for the Development & Alumni Relations Office at the University of Warwick.
Ralph joined Security Studies as HoSA (Operations) in March 2020 after three years as Business Manager in the School of Global Affairs.
He has an MA (1995) and PhD (2002) from King’s, and has worked for the College in a range of academic and professional services role since 1998. His main activities outside of work include bringing up two teenage sons, cooking, and collecting and playing musical instruments.
