Military & Political History

King’s College London is a world leader in the historical study of war. The research theme in Military and Political History promotes the study of the history of war broadly defined. Its members research and publish on the history of land, naval and air warfare, international and imperial history, intelligence history and the political, social and cultural aspects and impact of war in the past. With no restriction as to period or approach, study of the two world wars and the wars after 1945 are strong elements of the theme’s research.

The largest research theme in the School of Security Studies, it has over 30 academic and around 50 student members and works closely with a number of specialised research groups including the Sir Michael Howard Centre for the History of War. It facilitates collaborative research grant development, both within King’s and with external partners, and it supports PGR and ECR development.
