Latin Classical Level 1, Part 2
Course overview
The course gives students with little or no prior knowledge an introduction to the Latin language. Students will acquire basic knowledge of the key grammatical structures and core vocabulary of Latin in order to read, translate and analyse very simple or adapted Latin texts.
By studying Latin Classical Level 1, you be will be able to translate and manipulate basic Latin sentences, have an understanding of key points of Latin grammar and knowledge of essential Latin vocabulary, be able to read simple, adapted Latin texts, and have developed an insight into Roman culture and society.
What does this course cover?
Grammar:
- present active indicative and imperative of irregular verbs sum, eo, uolo, malo, nolo
- present active infinitive, all conjugations and irregular verbs
- future active indicative, all conjugations and irregular verbs
- 4th declension nouns
- personal pronouns
- 3rd declension adjectives
- more uses of cases
- more prepositions
- numbers
You will learn high-frequency Latin words belonging to the conjugations and declensions studied, and key vocabulary related to the topics of the texts you read.
What will I achieve?
After completing all three parts of this course, students should be ready to join a Latin Level 2 course at the LC.
