Active Wellness

Exercise therapy for mental and physical health

The Active Wellness Scheme is an initiative to help anyone within the King’s community who suffers from any mental or physical health issues through the use of exercise therapy.

Physical activity has been proven to have a profound positive effect on general wellbeing and quality of life. Whether suffering from a short term illness or chronic physical health problem we aim to show participants how to begin changing their lifestyle for the better with simple, effective and personalised programmes provided by one of our expert coaches at King’s Sport Gyms.

How to Get Involved

We offer two routes into the scheme.

Self Referral

Our self-referral programme allows any students or staff not currently connected with the below support networks at the University to access the scheme for a period of 2 weeks, with 2 coach led sessions.

Students and staff must book their initial consultation via the booking widget where one of our team will conduct an initial assessment to understand why the scheme is suitable for them.

Student Services or Residence Referral

If currently connected with one of the below services, students and staff are able to be referred onto the programme by their contact in the service for 6 weeks, with 4 coach led sessions.

  • Disability Advisory Service – mental health, specific learning difficulties and long term health issues (
  • Counselling and Mental Health – mental health issues and any concerns causing distress or difficulty (
  • KCL NHS Health Centre (Strand Campus) – GP surgery and general health service (
  • King’s Residence Wardens – located in each Halls of Residence, Wardens are able to refer suitable students to the programme.
  • Personal Tutors - all King's students are allocated a Personal Tutor upon enrolling in the university. Contact your Personal Tutor to be referred onto the Active Wellness Scheme.
  • Any member of King's staff who support the health and wellbeing of our students are able to refer to the programme as detailed on this page.
  • Staff can refer themselves on to the scheme via a self-referral where they will be given access to the scheme for a period of 2 weeks, with 2 coach led sessions or a referral through their people partner or line manager when 6 weeks access will be given

To start the scheme, you will need to be referred by one of the above departments, this is to ensure King’s is providing suitable support and that any underlying conditions are identified and treated appropriately.
