Professor Green: 2012 XVI World Economic History Congress

Posted on 13/07/2012
Professor David Green organised a session on Land, Wealth and the Empire at the 2012  XVI World Economic History Congress hosted by Stellenbosch University, South Africa.  Colleagues from Argentina, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the UK took part in this event which was a follow up to a meeting in London the previous summer sponsored by the British Academy. The presentations all looked at the types of wealth that were accumulated in the British settler colonies, the UK and Argentina using taxation records. This collaboration represents an international effort to understand better how how wealth was made and distributed in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and what opportunities existed for migrants and settlers in these places.
