Professor Rob Imrie has been awarded an ESRC research seminar grant to hold four seminars, between January 2013 and March 2014, based on the theme of Designing inclusive environments: shaping transitions from theory into practice.

The purpose of the seminar series is to provide a forum for both academics and practitioners to conceptualise, and reflect on, the social relations, policies, and practices of universal design (UD) from a range of critical perspectives. There is limited critique of the concept of UD, or depth interrogation of its role and relevance in responding to the manifold complexities of the body and the diverse socio-institutional contexts that shape the relationships between design, corporeality, and experience.
