Welcome Week is scheduled for 17-21 September 2018 with a range of activities and support for you to complete enrolment. 

Before you arrive, you should follow the below steps:

  1. Finalise Your Accommodation
  2. Do You Need A Visa?
  3. Fees And Funding
  4. King's IT and Setting Up Your Account
  5. Complete Online Enrolment
  6. Download the Welcome to King's Guide

You can also sign up for a Centre for Doctoral Studies induction.

Once you have completed the above steps you are ready to proceed and enrol in person at King's College London during Welcome Week.

Monday 17 September 2018

PGR Induction Day: Room K4.31 King's Building, Strand Campus

11.00-12.00: Introduction to PGR Geography

  • Welcome to the department - Professor Bruce Malamud (Deputy Head of Department)

  • The Geography PGR community and introduction to the Research Domain Groups - Dr Daanish Mustafa (PGR Director)

  • A graduate student's guide to surviving or thriving in London - Professor Ragnar Lofstedt (PGR Tutor)

12.00-13.00: Tour of the Department and Desk Space

  • Student Reps will conduct a tour of the department

  • David Smedley (PhD Room Manager) will take students through the hot desk system.

13.00-14.00: Lunch break

14.00-14.45: Professional Service Talk

  • 14.00-14.10: PGR Administration/ Being a GTA in the Department - Mrs Linda Summers (PGR Officer)

  • 14.10-14.20: Stipend, Finances and expenses - Dr Ralph Parfect (SGA Business Manager)

  • 14.20-14.30: Risk Assessments and Lab - Dr Ben Gridley (Lab Manager and Safety Officer)

  • 14.30-14.45: Introduction to Intrepid Explorers - Dan Mills and Anna Lavelle (PhD students)

15.00-16.00: Get to know your supervisor

  • Spend time getting to know your supervisor over afternoon tea

17.00-19.00: Drinks Reception for all PGR students and Staff

This will give you the opportunity to network with current and new PGR students and meet our academic and professional service staff.


Wednesday 19 September 2018

11.30-13.30: Methods Basic Skills Talk

Location: Edmond J Safra Lecture Theatre, King's Building

This is a basic skills session for PGT students who are doing an MSc and need an introduction on methods skills. New PGRs are invited to attend this if they would like a refresher.


Wednesday 26 September 2018

Centre for Doctoral Studies induction

Location: Franklin-Wilkins Builing, Waterloo Campus

12.30-14.30: International Student Induction, Room 1.67

There will be two sessions; one on Immigrations and Visas and the other on Life in London. This will include a light lunch.

14.30-15.00: Centre for Doctoral Studies induction

Location: Auditorium (B5)

A university-wide induction event for all new postgraduate research students.

The aim of this induction programme is to welcome new postgraduate research students to King's College London and to give an overview of PGR matters from staff across the university with a range of perspectives.
