Student Societies

The Department supports and works closely with several student-run societies at King’s. We encourage students to get involved in the numerous events hosted by our societies and with their publications.

The Economics and Finance Society

Tim Harford and Ha-Joon ChangThe Economics and Finance Society (EFS) is a passionate group of young economists who organise public-policy focused events with high-calibre speakers on a range of issues.

Recent talks have come from Newsnight’s Evan Davis, Financial Times columnist Tim Harford (below left), Cambridge Economist, Ha- Joon Chang (below right), former Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis and David Halpern, head of the Behavioural Insight Team.

Political Economy Society

politicaleconomylogo200PESphoto200PES was founded by a group of Masters students in the Department of Political Economy here at King’s. Their aim was to create a social network for dedicated and ambitious scholars in the field of Political Economy, bringing together the five hundred students across the Department.

They are open to anyone interested in Politics, Economics, Business and Finance, regardless of what course you are studying.

They don’t believe in financial barriers. To join them, simply checkout a free PES membership here on the KCLSU website

Please note that in order to attend our events, a membership will be required.

 The Politics Society

kclpolitics_logo_v2The Politics Society is a forum for discussing prominent political issues. We regularly organise talks by politicians, journalists, scholars and diplomats.

The Society also serves as a social platform for students to discuss their interest in politics and through their attendance of our many networking events and workshops, gain career advice and valuable connections.

We also publish Dialogue, a magazine composed of student contributions. Find out more about the many events we have to offer here at Politics Society and Dialogue.

The Politics, Philosophy and Economics Society

ppelogo200The King’s College London Philosophy, Politics and Economics Society (PPE) aims to apply philosophy to public policy questions.

It regularly hosts talks by renowned academics (Dr Ha-Joon Chang), MPs (Jonathan Wolff and Oliver Letwin) and journalists (such as Martin Wolf, Chief Economics Commentator at the Financial Times), and organises social events to enable students to informally mix with academics and professionals.

 King's Think Tank

Kings Think Tank logo_puff

Started in 2010 in the wake of the student fees demonstrations, King’s Think Tank is a student-led policy organisation dedicated to opening up political debate and policy to students at King’s College London. With increasing political disillusionment among young people, the Think Tank strives to reengage and reinvigorate the student community.

Comprising seven policy centres covering all the main areas of policy today – Law, Education, Energy & Environment, Defence & Diplomacy, Business & Economics, European Affairs and Global Health, the Think Tank is a diverse and progressive body, holding twice-monthly panel events with renowned experts and publishing a policy journal twice-yearly.

The organisation is, importantly, nonpartisan, and strives to promote fairness and academic stringency.
