Previously, Riikka Savolainen worked as a Senior Researcher at a Finnish research institute. In the past, she served as a Special Advisor at the Budget Department at the Finnish Ministry of Finance.
She completed her PhD in Economics at the Aalto University (former Helsinki School of Economics), Finland, in 2015.
Her primary research fields are Public Economics and Political Economy and, in her research, she utilises empirical microeconometric methods.

Riikka is interested in the behavioural impact of taxes and of redistribution. Her research interests also include the fiscal and labour market impacts of immigrants, especially those of refugees.
At present, she is studying the passthrough and the demand elasticity of a sweets tax. She is also working with how political experience influences politicians’ policy positions.
