BA/BSc Philosophy, Politics & Economics

BA/BSc Philosophy, Politics & Economics

Philosophy, Politics and Economy is a multidisciplinary degree co-taught with the Department of Philosophy. The degree seeks to provide students with a range of conceptual tools for understanding political and social phenomena through the lenses of the three disciplines.

Both the Department of Political Economy and the Philosophy Department are at the cutting edge of research in their fields, and teach modules that reflect their varied and overlapping research interests.

The Department of Political Economy is unique in the UK, in that modules are taught by economists, political scientists and political theorists. Students will benefit from a range of interdisciplinary modules such as ‘Ethics, Economics & Environmental Protection,’ ‘European Union: Power, Politics & Economics,’ ‘Development Economics,’ and ‘Commerce, Liberty and Virtue.’

Students can also take advantage of a world class Philosophy Department, where they can enrol in modules such as ‘Theories of Justice,’ ‘Philosophy of Religion,’ and ‘Gender and Philosophy.’ The department is ranked 1st in London and 3rd in the UK for research quality and power (REF). The programme coordinator in philosophy is Dr. Julien Dutant.

Student societies (the PPE Society, the Philosophy Society, the Politics Society, the Economics and Finance Society) are active and inclusive, and hold a variety of events of interest to programme students. In addition, King’s departments and King’s affiliated institutions, such as the Chatham House offer an impressive range of lectures and workshops.

For further information please see our Online Prospectus or contact the Programme Director, Dr. Roberto Fumagalli.

Please note: Due to the large number of applications and the competitive nature of this programme, we will not be accepting any internal (from other KCL programmes) or external (from other universities) transfers in either year one or year two.
