Gabriela Thompson is Assistant Director at the Centre for Defence Studies (CDS). Her primary research interests lie in the areas of UK defence management, civil-military relations, judicial activism in defence and legislative oversight. Prior to working at CDS, Gabriela worked as Research Fellow in Defence Industries and Society at the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies and Research Associate in Politics and International Relations at the University of Westminster.
Gabriela holds an MA (Hon) in Legal Studies and Politics from the University of Aberdeen, LLM in Law and Politics of International Security from Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, and a PhD from the University of Roehampton. Her doctoral research culminated in an inter-disciplinary, qualitative analysis of the dominant conceptualisations and practices of UK defence as evidenced by the discourse in the year 2015, providing an alternative lens through which to understand policy and decision-making in UK defence.
