Study at SSPP: An interdisciplinary approach

WaterlooBridge

King's College London is one of the world's top 25 universities (QS World Rankings 2016-17): a multi-faculty research-led university institution based in the heart of London.

King's was ranked 21st in the world for social science in 2017 by the Times Higher Education (THE).

The Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy (SSPP) offers an intellectually rigorous environment supported by welcoming and caring tradition, dedicated to the advancement of knowledge, learning and understanding in the service of society, both in the UK and internationally.

Our Faculty currently caters for over 4,000 students, from around 300 countries, who follow one of the many degree programmes we offer.

In conjunction with other faculties, we also offer International Foundation Programmes, intensive one year foundation programmes for students who are aiming to study undergraduate degree programmes at King’s and other top UK universities.

An interdisciplinary research culture and learning institution

SSPP features an internationally renown multidisciplinary research culture and provides learning and teaching by top academic talent.

This unique learning environment is evidenced in the Faculty's four Schools and the Policy Institute at King's:

Each area of research traditionally also draws on knowledge from across several disciplines to provide specialist insight within a complex societal context.

Our Faculty is the third-largest at King's, with over 300 academic staff from UK, Europe and overseas, and our world renowned academic merits helped place the College amongst the top 25 in QS World University Rankings and the Faculty's many international links mean we are also constantly at the forefront of social science thinking.

This forms the foundation for our teaching, providing students with the unique opportunity to study a topic of their particular area interest at a top-ranking university, giving them a head-start in their future careers; as researchers or as experts within the public or private sectors in the UK and abroad.

Careers and employability

Nearly 78 per cent of graduates from SSPP (2014-15) were in graduate or graduate-level jobs six months after graduation (HESA data, 2016).

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of social science research and its many applications in the greater community, we are continuously reviewing our degree programme provision to make sure we provide degrees that meet demands of future employers.

Following on a degree in social science from King's and SSPP, our Alumni often pursue a career working closely with governments and public policy makers to improve the lives for the general public.
