The Social Science Showcase

Social Science Showcase

The Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy (SSPP) in collaboration with King's Interdisciplinary Social Science Doctoral Training Centre (KISS-DTC) were proud to announce the first ever Social Science Showcase at King's College London in November 2013.

SSPP is one of UK's foremost Faculties in social science and public policy, and have been the training ground for many of the nation's relentless influencers in societal development.

The purpose of the Social Science Showcase is to welcome the general public to meet our young researchers who will be showcasing the expertise in social science flourishing at SSPP and King's.

The showcase consists of a 2-day training programme in public engagement, titled @KingsSSPP engages (6-7 November) which is specifically designed for the Faculty's PGR students, followed by a competition in public engagement, titled #TheSocialManiFestival (8 November) which is open to audience members, students and staff, from across the College as well as is open the general public.

This video shows highlights from the Showcase; Suzanne Snowden, PhD Student in the Department of Social Science, Health & Medicine (SSHM) and winner of the #The SocialManiFestival competition in public engagement, speakers Peter Neumann, Professor in the Department of War Studies,
Julia Pearce, Research Associate at the Department of War Studies, Clive Page, Professor of Pharmacology (BMS) and winner of King's Awards 'Most Significant Contribution to Public Engagement' award in 2012, and all other participating students, speakers and teachers at the event.

The Showcase is a collaboration between SSPP and KISS-DTC, King’s Interdisciplinary Social Science Doctoral Training Centre.

KISS-DTC is funded with ca £6 million by the Economic and Social Research Council, ESRC, and offers a range of training programmes for PGR students as well as provide 15-20 studentships a year for doctoral social scientists across the College.
