Assessment Period 2 weighing on your mind? Well, to help things feel a little lighter, here’s a picture of what it is, how to prepare for it and key tips to know ahead of it.

This academic year's second assessment period takes place from Tuesday 5 May to Friday 5 June 2026. During this time, you might have to submit coursework designed to deepen your knowledge or take an in-person exam.

Exams can be:

  • open book (printed or written material allowed),
  • limited book (pre-approved texts allowed), or
  • closed book (no materials allowed).

You’ll find the format of each exam in your exam timetable. If an exam you’re supposed to take doesn’t appear in your exam timetable, contact your course leaders as soon as you can.

Remember that some items are banned from the exam room, for example:

  • revision notes
  • laptops
  • earplugs
  • smartwatches
  • carbonated or glass drinks
  • oversized bags

Check the full list of allowed and banned items here.

Studying on campus

If you’re not sure where you study best but you enjoy a buzzing café environment, the Science Gallery London Café at Guy’s Campus (pictured above) is a good option.

If you prefer a quieter environment while studying, you can work in a quiet or silent room in one of the campus libraries. If you and your classmates want to revise together, group study rooms can be booked easily. If none of these match your vibe, there are lots of other cool places to study at King’s.

The night before...

Make sure to focus on getting a good amount of rest on the night before any in-person exam. Here's a small checklist to complete before you leave the house:

  • Keys
  • Student ID
  • Two pens
  • Phone
  • Water bottle
  • Small snack
  • Wallet
  • Oyster card
  • Umbrella (it's London - you never know!)

All aboard to ExCeL London

Depending on where you’re coming from, you can combine the London underground, DLR, buses and/or trains when planning your route - and backup route - to ExCeL London.

For example, here's the journey from Strand Campus:

Tube

Bakerloo line at Embankment station to Westminster → Jubilee line to Canning Town station → DLR line to Custom House station.

Bus + tube

Choose a bus stop around Strand Campus buildings → take the 1, 59, 68, 76, 139, 172, 176, 243 or 341 to Waterloo station → Jubilee line to Canning Town station → DLR line to Custom House station.

Inconveniences and changes can happen at any moment, so check the Transport for London app or website in advance of your journey.

Remember your ID!

Please don’t panic if you lose your student ID before Assessment Period 2 - simply ask for a replacement one as soon as you can before your exam.

If asking for a new student ID isn't possible anymore, in some exceptional circumstances, you can use your passport or driver’s license as ID at in-person exams.

Keep calm and good luck!
