What happens at a Careers appointment?
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to a Careers appointment, but there are several different kinds of appointments you can sign up for depending on your current stage of thinking.
Careers Guidance: These 20-minute appointments can be used as a starting point to your career search. If you have no idea what you want to do or feel overwhelmed considering your options, a Careers Consultant can help you develop your thinking and point you to relevant resources.
Application Advice: If you are working on applying for a role or opportunity, an Application Advisor can look over your already-prepared CVs, cover letters, personal statements, and job applications to help ensure they are optimised for that role.
Practice Interview: If you have an upcoming interview, you can book a practice interview with us to help you prepare. You will let us know the role you are interviewing for, and we will provide an opportunity for you to practice answering questions with feedback to help you improve your technique.
Careers+ Appointments: Eligible students enrolled on our Careers+ programme for under-represented groups can access exclusive 30-minute appointments with our dedicated Careers Consultant to support you. Not sure if you’re eligible? Click here to find out.
Please note, this is not a comprehensive list and more specific types are available depending on your course/faculty.
How do I make a Careers appointment?
Careers appointments can be easily booked on King’s CareerConnect. Most appointments open for booking 48 hours in advance, except for Careers+ appointments, which are bookable 2 weeks in advance.
How do I make the most of my appointment?
Before you book an appointment, it is a good idea to think about what you might want to explore with the consultant. It might be something broad (e.g. I don’t know what I want to do when I graduate) or specific (e.g. I have two job offers and can’t pick between them). Our Careers Consultants act as impartial advisors, so they won’t tell you what to do, but they will direct you to reliable sources of information and help you make sense of your own thinking.
