Graduation is one of the most important occasions in your life. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the incredible accomplishments that you have worked so hard to achieve. We’ve pulled together some tips on how to prepare – from things to do beforehand, to what to expect at the venue and graduation essentials – so you can sit back, relax and enjoy your special day to the fullest when it arrives.
Preparing for the day
Liaising with our partners in KCLSU, we have decided that everyone attending a graduation ceremony in 2022 will not need to pay for academic dress hire. This means that there will be no cost for you to attend, other than any guest tickets or photographs you may wish to purchase.
To find out when you can book a place at your graduation ceremony please visit Student Services Online.
Travel – Remember to account for the time you’ll need to get to your ceremony, collect your tickets, pick up your gown and have any photographs taken. You don’t graduate every day, after all, so give yourself plenty of time to ensure it runs smoothly.
Accommodation – When planning travel, if overnight accommodation is needed please remember to book this in advance too.
Visa assistance for your graduation ceremony – If you are unsure as to whether or not you or your guests require a visa, please see the UK Visa and Immigration website for a full list of countries that require a visa to enter the United Kingdom. See Student Services Online for more information on visas and graduation.
What should I bring with me?
Photo ID – Most importantly, remember to bring a form of photo ID with you. This can be your King’s student card, passport or photo driving licence. You will need ID in order to collect your tickets and book in on the day of your graduation ceremony.
Proof of tickets – If you have booked any guest tickets you will need to show the email with your guest e-tickets at the venue. This email does not have to be printed and can be shown on a phone or tablet.
A camera or phone – Be ready to capture the moment and memories with your friends and family (but remember to put phones into silent mode for the ceremony!)
Essentials information for your guests
Booking guest tickets – When booking your place you will be able to book a maximum of two guest tickets for your ceremony. We may be able to offer additional guest tickets if the venue has the capacity, but we won’t be able to confirm this until later in the booking period.
Can my guests take photos and videos during the ceremony? – Your guests are welcome to take photographs and videos during the graduation ceremony, but we ask that they please remain seated to avoid blocking the view of those around them.
Where should I meet my guests? – We suggest having a prearranged area to meet your guests, there will also be meeting points by the information desks at each venue. More information for each venue will follow with your invitation.
