Award details
The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) is offering a number of scholarships to support students with the financial commitments of postgraduate study.
These scholarships include the School of Academic Psychiatry Scholarships, School of Mental Health & Psychological Sciences Scholarships, School of Neuroscience Scholarships, and the IoPPN Dean’s Scholarships.
Please refer to the eligibility section below to determine which scholarship schemes you can apply to. The scholarships are available for all full-time home and international fee status students undertaking an eligible Postgraduate Taught (PGCert, PGDip or MSc) course at the IoPPN, starting in September 2026.
If you are unsuccessful in obtaining a scholarship, this does not affect the outcome of your postgraduate programme application in any way.
Award value
Scholarships are being offered at a value of £5,000 each.
The scholarships are paid towards the fees via an internal transfer within the university. The scholarship holder will still need to meet the difference in fees personally or from another award.
Please note, you will not be able to hold an IoPPN Postgraduate Taught Scholarship alongside any other internal or external scholarship which covers tuition fees (e.g., Chevening Scholarships).
Eligibility criteria
These awards are open to home and International (including EU) applicants. Applicants must fulfil all of the following requirements:
- Have applied to one of the full-time postgraduate taught programmes at the IoPPN (please see the full list of eligible courses below), due to commence their programme in September 2026 (please note scholarships cannot be deferred to 2027 or later entry). Your scholarship application will be considered together with your programme application, but you do not need to have received an offer from a programme to apply for a scholarship.
- Fulfil the relevant academic and English proficiency entry requirements for the postgraduate taught programme, set by King’s College London.
- As the award provides partial funding only, applicants must be able to confirm that they have/are seeking the means to support any outstanding fees/costs not covered by this scheme i.e., through other funding awards or self-funding.
You must not already hold a Master’s, or equivalent postgraduate qualification. Students who already hold a Master’s degree or higher are not eligible for this funding but students who have undertaken prior postgraduate study such as PG Diplomas or PG Certificates or clinical/medical qualifications are eligible.

Application process
You must submit an online admissions application for one of the IoPPN Postgraduate Taught programmes. Once you have applied for your chosen programme, please complete the scholarship application form. If you are not able to access this form, please email ioppn.pgtscholarships@kcl.ac.uk and a Word document version of the form will be sent to you.
Your scholarship application will be considered together with your programme application, but you do not need to have received an offer from a programme to apply for a scholarship.
If you are applying to more than one MSc programme, please complete a separate scholarship application form for each programme.
The deadline for the scholarship applications for academic year 2026/2027 is Friday 22 May 2026 (17.00 GMT).
You must ensure that your application is ‘complete’ in order to be considered for funding. To be deemed ‘complete’, it must contain all the relevant supporting documentation required by the programme applied to, such as references, transcripts, and English language scores (if available). However, you do not need to have received an offer from your chosen programme to apply for a scholarship.
You may apply to, and hold, other scholarship schemes at King’s but you will not be able to hold more than one IoPPN scholarship. If you are offered more than one IoPPN scholarship, you will be allowed to select which award you would like to hold. Please note, you will not be able to hold an IoPPN Postgraduate Taught Scholarship alongside any other internal or external scholarship which covers tuition fees (e.g., Chevening Scholarships).
Selection process
You will be assessed on the strength of your application to your chosen Postgraduate Taught programme and your IoPPN Scholarship Application Form including:
- Academic qualifications and merit.
- Relevant clinical and/or work experience.
- Personal statement (you should explain why the programme of study to which you have applied is appropriate for you and your intended progression at the end of the course - you may use the same personal statement as the one used to apply to your chosen Postgraduate Taught programme)
When will I know the outcome of my application?
Successful applicants will be notified of the decision on their scholarship application. Please note, successful applicants for this scholarship who are holding a programme offer at this time must pay a deposit to accept their programme offer within the deadline stated by King’s Admissions. The deposit deadline varies according to when the programme offer is made and must be paid by the specified deadline regardless of whether a decision has been made on the scholarships.
Deposits are not required until a decision has been made on the scholarships. If you have already paid your deposit, you will still be considered for a scholarship.
