Moving out of residences

move out banner 2019-01
Moving out can be a stressful time. The high of finishing exams is over and you are ready for the summer break to start. However, there are a few key things that need to be done before you head off. We have collaborated with Better Resuse services to ensure that any unrequired things are disposed in an eco-friendly way. Better Reuse  provide eco-friendly services that divert redundant furniture, fittings and equipment from landfill and put them back to use, usually cheaper than waste solutions.

This is a task that should be spread across a number of weeks so it doesn’t get too overwhelming. Think about what you will need (boxes, packing tape, bubble wrap) and how much of each item you will need. There is nothing worse than getting to 8:00am on the day of move out and you are three boxes short.

Chances are you have accumulated a large amount of items over the last 40 weeks. Most of these will make the journey with you to your next place of residence or even back home.
Think about whether you really need all of these items. This year King’s Residences are partnering with Better Re-Use, a not for profit organisation that collects unwanted items and distributes them to local charities, food banks and community groups in need.
Starting from the 1st June, drop off stations will be set up in your residence to collect any items you would like to donate. Please check with your reception team regarding where these stations will be set up.
Items that can be donated include:
- Clothes & Shoes- Must be clean and undamaged. Please tie pairs of shoes together.
- Bed Linen- Clean duvets, pillows, towels and bed linen without stains or tears.
- Electrical items Including lamps, computer equipment, kettles and phones in working condition.
- Kitchen Items Clean & undamaged pots, pans, cutlery and crockery.
- Food Non-perishable, unopened food items, packets and tins. We have a number of students who will be staying in residences throughout the summer. If you have any opened food, check with these students before disposing of it.
- Books, CDs & DVDs- In good condition.
- Stationery- Any pens, pencils, notebooks and folders which can be re-used.

Prior to checking out, you are required to remove your belongings as well as ensure your bedroom and kitchen are left in a clean and tidy state. Please ensure you complete the following:
- Remove all personal objects from your room
- Empty trash
- Vaccuum floor
- Clean bathroom (if ensuite or studio room)
- Remove all personal items
- Empty and wipe down cabinet and shelves
- Empty and wipe down inside of refridgerator
- Wipe down counter
Please make use of the vacuum cleaners and brooms provided in your residence as well as trash bags, which are available from reception.
When checking out, it is important to ensure you remove all of your items, donations and waste from your room to avoid additional charges. Please also ensure you report any repairs required prior to checking out. If you room has been found to have been damaged, you will be charged based on the rates identified here.

Checking out

All residents are required to check out by 10:00am on the day of their contract end date. Residents at our Great Dover Street, Stamford Street, Champion Hill and Wolfson House residences are able to collect their express check out envelope from reception from Thursday 31st May 2019. All residents are required to check out with reception to avoid any excess removal fees beyond your contract date.
To make the move out process easier, please use our handy Check Out List.

Things to remember

- Please ensure that all windows are closed and locked and heaters, taps and lights are turned off.

- If you reside in a residence that requires keys (rather than just your swipe card) you will be required to return these upon check out or you will be charged.
