This module builds on the knowledge and skills acquired during Analysing English 1 in Year 1, and is divided into two distinct parts. The first part of the module deals with the study of more complex aspects of English phonology and phonetics: the production and reception of speech sounds, features of connected speech, weak forms, word stress, and intonation. The second part goes beyond these theoretical areas of study to consider accents (prestige, non-prestige, and stigmatised; L1 and L2) and the issues they raise in relation to language attitudes.
