Module description

The course studies the changes that have taken place in the government and politics of Britain since the Second World War, in terms of public policy and the ideology of the political parties, and the institutions and processes of how Britain is governed. The key issues it will consider include:

  • The key principles and ideas underpinning UK government during this period
  • The structures that have existed to give expression to these principles, and how well they performed their task
  • The areas of controversy that arose about the organisation of UK government during this period
  • How government changed in the period from 1945; and the causes and consequences of this change
