DEMOCRACY IN THE UNITED KINGDOM (Module)

Module description

Arrangements for the governance of the United Kingdom (UK) are presently in a condition of controversy and uncertainty. Pronounced disagreements surround departure from the European Union; provision for human rights, and the nature of devolution. A break-up of the UK, with the departure of one or more components, is a possibility. This module considers current flux from the perspective of processes of constitutional change that have taken place over a period of around half a century. Using historical methodology alongside legal and political science theory, it profiles the multiple transformations that have occurred, asking how they came about, and considering where they might be leading. Using historical methodology alongside legal and political science theory, it profiles the multiple transformations that have occurred, asking how they came about, and considering where they might be leading.
