This module covers the theoretical basis and pedagogy for teaching computer science including programming and for introducing the concepts of computing to pupils in school. Issues identified by research in the area of teaching and learning programming and computer science are considered together with the implications for computing education at primary and secondary level. Topics covered will include pedagogical approaches to programming, teaching "unplugged", gender and computing and learning with and through computer games. Students on this module will have access to online materials to enhance their subject knowledge and learn programming (Python 3) if necessary (although this will not be taught in the module). This course is offered both as a 30 credit module on MA Education programmes and as a standalone short course.
*Please note that although all module information is correct for the 2017/18 academic year, it is subject to change for future academic years.
