The module aims to review the nature and processes of global environmental changes experienced during the Anthropocene (the proposed epoch of significant human environmental influence) and into the near future. This module focuses on natural and anthropogenic influences on contemporary environmental change in the atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere and the biosphere. The course will include practical work providing an overview of environmental monitoring and modelling methods and tools as well as case studies (e.g. using cloud-based computing to study land-use change).
