Improving Learning and Attainment in the Classroom (Module)

Module description

This module is intended for serving teachers who wish to review and enhance their classroom performance, making use of cutting edge research on pupil learning in their subject areas and drawing on expert curriculum advice. It should be of interest both to newly qualified teachers and to experienced teachers seeking to review and develop their professional know-how. The module will consist of five lectures/seminars which will explore current and recent policies intended to enhance pupil learning, examine research on the most effective ways to promote progress and support teachers in the setting up and conducting of a classroom based research project. Students on the module will then have one-to-one tutorial support as they carry out an in-school project - identifying an area for improvement in terms of their own pupils' learning, planning an intervention and gathering data in order to reflect upon this intervention's effectiveness. You must be working full or part time as a teacher in school to enrol on this module. This module is intended for serving teachers who wish to review and enhance their classroom performance, making use of cutting edge research on pupil learning in their subject areas and drawing on expert curriculum advice.
