Module description

This module aims to provide knowledge that underpins the Physics of Medical Imaging with Non-Ionising Radiation (MRI and Ultrasound) and gives tools to undertake further research or practice in this area.

At the conclusion of the module the student will be able to discuss the physical processes behind image formation using non-ionising radiation; explain the normal and pathological appearances of images and identify common imaging artefacts; discuss the physical principles and operation of ultrasound and MRI equipment; explain the factors that affect the imaging system performance; understand the legislation and guidance that ensures safe working
