Law & Reproduction (Module)

Module description

This module aims to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and a critical understanding of the law relating to reproduction in England and Wales and in some other jurisdictions and also with an understanding of some of the key ethical issues underlying the law.

The first part of this module will cover aspects of the twin themes of assistance in reproduction and the legitimate uses of the embryo in law. These themes are united by the fact that the activities of embryo research/stem cell research/therapeutic cloning may stem from the embryos created but not used in medically assisted reproduction.

The theme of the second part of the module concerns the scope of the legal interest in having a child, or in avoiding reproduction or in deciding about the kind of child one may have.
