Power-up your learning: the keys to studying engineering at university
This taster course is designed for students considering undergraduate study in Engineering or a related discipline. It offers an ideal platform to experience what it is really like to study engineering at university and students will be encouraged to reflect upon the skills and attributes required to achieve success in this discipline.
Led by academics from the Department of Informatics, part of the faculty of Natural and Mathematical Sciences, students will learn about the importance of sustainable solutions in modern engineering and the advantages of project based learning.
The four-day course will consist of lectures, discussions and a team-based lab project. Students will be challenged to demonstrate their understanding by working collaboratively to design, build and programme a lego-robot-based educational tool that teaches young people about renewable energy.
By the end of the course, you should be able to:
- Understand the role of project-based learning in engineering education
- Plan and execute team-based projects
- Write and execute simple python programmes for controlling Lego robots
