Important information for students under 18
If you are under the age of 18 at the time of enrolment on your chosen King’s International Foundation course or Pre-sessional course, there are few things that you need to do before you arrive.
If you are under the age of 18, you are considered a ‘child’ under British law (Children Act, 1989). This means that King’s has social, moral and legal obligations to safeguard the wellbeing and safety of ‘children’ involved in any King’s activities.
King’s has a responsibility to keep all students under the age of 18 safe, as part of the King’s Safeguarding policy. As part of this policy, we must ensure that your living arrangements are safe and secure.
As part of the King’s safeguarding policy, students under the age of 18 must either:
1. Live in a King’s Residence
If you choose to live in a King’s Residence, you will be grouped in the same accommodation blocks as other students under 18 years of age. These residences have extra welfare and personal support for you.
All King’s International Foundation students are guaranteed accommodation in a King’s Residence for up to two years, including the International Foundation year and the first year of your undergraduate degree at King’s. You will need to submit a Parent/Legal Guardian Agreement to Study form U18.
2. Live with a parent or legal guardian
If you choose to live in private accommodation, you will need to provide evidence to King’s that you will be living with a parent or legal guardian. We cannot permit you to live in private accommodation if your parent or legal guardian does not live with you.
If you cannot demonstrate that you will be living with a parent or legal guardian in private accommodation, you must apply for a place in King’s Residences. You will also need to submit a Parent/Legal Guardian Agreement to Study form U18.
Please note: If you don’t wish to stay in a King’s Residence and cannot demonstrate that you will be living with a parent or legal guardian, then it is the responsibility of King’s to withdraw your offer to your chosen King’s International Foundation or Pre-sessional course.
This is because King’s does not act in loco parentis (in the place of a parent) towards its students. Therefore, King’s must be assured of your safety and safeguarding at all times.
If you have any questions, please contact the King's Admissions team.
