About Combined Pre-Sessional

The Combined Pre-Sessional course is for students who are looking for flexible academic English preparation to fit in around their busy work, family or other study commitments.

The course is broken down into two parts online and classroom learning. In the first part of your course, you will participate in online webinars, seminars and tutorials. In the second part of your course, you will participate in classroom learning with your fellow online classmates on campus.

Programme structure

Online learning

  • Participate in quality teaching with face-to-face interaction with a teacher twice a week.
  • Webinar/ seminar each week – with up to 12 students and a teacher generally an 1 hour in duration.
  • Tutorial every week - 2-3 students with a teacher, live interaction – generally 30 minutes in duration.
  • There is a choice of times to attend tutorials and lessons so can fit it around work or studies or family.
  • Flexible self-study through video lessons and complete related work over the week. Some lessons focus on listening and others will focus on reading and writing.
  • Each week you will be required to submit work on a task, you will receive individual feedback and support.
  • Technical support offered Monday to Friday - 9am to 5pm GMT.

1-week transition period 

When you arrive on campus, you will have a week of face-to-face classes with your online teacher to help you adapt to classroom learning and ensure that your learning needs are met.

Face-to-face classroom learning

  • 15+hours of study a per week with a mix of lectures, smaller group sessions and tutorials.
  • Self-study.
