Award description
This award is intended only for the participants of the Global Summer Exchange programme. We would like students to share content (photos, videos, social media content, etc) from their time abroad, to promote further mobility.
Award value
Funds are likely to be in the region of GBP £150 to £600, and will help support students with the essential costs, but this is dependent on the location visited as well as the content delivered, and applications received. For any student who is in receipt of additional funding, their award will be adjusted so that it is fair for all.
Eligibility criteria
Students attending online courses, i.e. not in person at the Host university, are not eligible to apply.
There is no additional eligibility criteria, however, we particularly encourage applications from students from under-represented backgrounds who will be participating in the exchange.
Award conditions
Students should have a confirmed place on their chosen Global Summer Exchange programme before applying for the Global Summer Exchange Award and as stated above, this cannot be an online course. You may be required to show confirmation of your acceptance on the programme in order to receive the award.
Please be advised that if you fail to attend the exchange as planned, this will result in the Global Mobility Office asking for the funds to be returned to King’s.
Application process
Applications are open from Sunday 1st March 2026 and will close on Sunday 3rd May 2026 at 11:59pm (UK time). We will not accept late applications.
Students will submit a 'pitch' of their ideas of how they can contribute media while abroad. This could include, but is not limited to:
- Videography/Photography
- Blog post
- Podcast
- Instagram (stories, reels & grid)
- Other [this must deemed appropriate for promotion by the Global Mobility Office]
For videography/photography, students will ideally need to provide a portfolio (which could be something as simple as an Instagram/YouTube page) to indicate the standard they will be able to supply in return for the funds. For written work, students will need to provide an ideal theme that they'd like to talk about and this would be assessed in terms of how it would benefit further mobility.
Students usually receive awards in the region of £150 to £600, but this is dependent on the location visited, the costs involved to attend the program and the content type delivered. Award amounts are subject to change year on year and will depend on the number of applications we receive.
Selection process
Applications will be reviewed after the deadline and students can expect to hear back regarding the outcome of their application within 4 to 6 weeks of the deadline. Following receipt of the outcome, students may be required to provide additional documentation and evidence in order to confirm their award. We will then request the payment of the award, and this should be done within one month but in busy periods may be longer.
Students should be aware that they are not guaranteed to receive the funding prior to the start of their activity.
