About the Modern Language Centre

The Modern Language Centre provides expert language tuition in the heart of London and is open to all. The MLC provides courses to King's undergraduate and graduate students, and to the local professional and residential community.

It is situated in the heart of London, at the College's main Strand Campus. It is close to Waterloo and Charing Cross train stations as well as Holborn, the City and Covent Garden. The Centre is part of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, one of the UK’s most prestigious and comprehensive faculties of its kind.

The MLC employs over 100 teaching staff from a wide range of linguistic and cultural backgrounds. All teaching staff are native speakers of the language they teach, and have in-depth knowledge of language teaching methodology. Many have expertise in other areas such as journalism, politics, business, international affairs and the health sector.

Our responsibilities

The Modern Language Centre has two main remits. Firstly to provide language tuition to the 27,000 plus students and 7,000 plus staff that call King's College London home and secondly to provide high quality language tuition to all, the London community, individuals and businesses through our Evening and Saturday Language courses, our tailor made, and corporate language training programmes.

Our support to our students

How do we support our students and add to the learning experience to ensure you get the best teaching, environment and value?
  • The Language Resources Centre: provides all students of the Modern Language Centre with additional support to enhance their language learning. Located in the basement of the Strand Campus, the LRC provides books, CDs, DVDs and newspapers from our 26+ languages to support our students as well as spaces especially designed to practice language and work quietly.
  • Free speaking practice: The Modern Language Centre offers all our students the opportunity to benefit from free one to one speaking practice sessions. Learning a language is a challenging and exciting experience and the Modern Language Centre students can practise speaking with a native speaker for free every week.
  • Guest Wifi: Log on to free guest wifi in our Language Resources Centre.
  • Press Reader: A free service to students. Press Reader provides newspapers and magazines from all languages taught at the Modern Language Centre. This allows students to practice language learning with the use of current world events.
