Free speaking practice - Practise your language!

(Limited sessions offered in term 3 due to volunteer unavailability)

The Modern Language Centre provides FREE speaking practice with a native speaker, for MLC students and King's students/staff. Our volunteers come from the richly diverse King's community.

  • Why should you do this? It's a great way to practice what you've learnt so far, in a friendly informal setting.
  • How do the sessions work? Students lead the sessions, prepared with a topic of choice. This could be something covered in class or a subject of personal interest. The format is informal and our volunteers are very friendly and welcoming.
  • Where is speaking practice held? All sessions take place in the Language Resources Centre, room K-1.07.2 at the Strand Campus.
  • What languages are available? Please check the booking system for available languages. Note that language availability depends on confirmed volunteers each term.
  • When are the sessions? Please view the available slots by clicking on the link below. Please note that the schedule is dependant on our volunteers' availability. If you cannot find a time that suits you, please contact us so that we can make a note of any future preferences.
  • How do I book? Please click here to book.
  • How can I view or cancel bookings? You can view your current bookings via the booking system, or cancel them yourself up to one day in advance. Should you need to cancel on the same day, plase send us an email or call 020 7848 1006.
  • Booking rules: You can book one session per week for up to a month in advance. Sessions are subject to availability.
  • No shows/late cancellations: Please note that the native speakers are volunteers who give up their free time to help our students. Please remember to keep your appointments, as you will not be able to continue to benefit from the service otherwise.
  • Who do I contact if I have questions? If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at
