Congratulations on your offer to study with us! We hope this will be the first step towards joining the King’s College London community!
Welcome to your offer holder hub – this page has lots of information, guidance and resources to support you on your MA journey. It may change from time-to-time as things progress, so do check in for any new updates.
Dr Hannah Walters and Dr Maren Elfert are the Programme Director and Deputy Programme Director for the MA Education. We work as part of a larger interdisciplinary team of teachers and researchers focusing on different aspects of education, and social research more broadly.
Alongside lectures, seminars and workshops, there are lots of opportunities to get to know each other as part of the MA Education community. We hold a number of socials each year, including the annual Christmas party and student mini conference in the summer. We also work closely with other MA programmes in the School, so you will meet students and academics from beyond your programme as well.
We always enjoy chatting to prospective students and encourage you to reach out with any questions. You can find our email addresses on our profile pages, linked above.
We look forward to meeting you in September!
For a flavour of the kinds of subjects we will be looking at as part of the MA Education, check out this brief reading list. If you would like more suggestions, do feel free to reach out to Hannah or Maren, or a specific module lead from the Programme.
As part of the School of Education, Communication and Society (ECS) you will benefit from a rich research culture which includes numerous projects on education. You will even conduct your very own research project for your final dissertation.
Below are a selection of projects which might be of interest:
Mixed-Heritage Young People's Educational Experiences in London: An Exploratory Study – a project which explores the educational journeys of students who identify as mixed-heritage, multiracial or mixed-race (ages 18-25) within London’s diverse higher education institutions.
Postgraduate student experience: identity, belonging and attainment - an in-depth examination of postgraduate students’ teaching and learning experiences in a multicultural learning context, with a focus on the ways in which student identity can shape student experience, their sense of belonging and impact their academic attainment.
Opportunity, equality and agency in England's new VET landscape: a longitudinal study of post-16 transitions (Young Lives, Young Futures) - a five-year ESRC-funded study is investigating how England’s vocational education and training (VET) system can better support the school-to-work transitions of the 50 per cent of young people who don’t go to university.
The History of Educational Planning in Developing Countries Through the Lens of the International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) – a study tracing how the field of educationan planning emerged, and how it has evolved over the past 55 years.
If you haven’t already, do check out the main MA Education page where you can find more resources, including a video about our MA community.
