Up to 80 studentships are available for postgraduate research students studying Arts & Humanities at King's College London, School of Advanced Study (University of London) or University College London from the London Arts & Humanities Partnership (AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership).

Eligibility criteria

  • Candidates should hold a first-class or a good upper second-class Honours degree or equivalent, and would normally be expected to hold a Masters Degree.
  • Funding is available to support study for a postgraduate degree at MPhil/PhD programme level only.
  • Funding is only available to support research that falls within the arts and humanities disciplines. For details on subject areas, please go to: http://www.lahp.ac.uk/apply-for-a-studentship/ahrc-subject-area-definition/.
  • Funding is normally only available to applicants liable to pay UK/EU fees. Your fee status - UK/EU/Overseas - is assessed by the relevant institutional admissions teams, and will be shown in your admissions record/offer letter.
  • LAHP studentships are open to UK and EU students who meet the residency requirements as detailed on page 11. of the cross Research Council Terms and Conditions of Training Grants. Please note: EU students are eligible to apply for LAHP funding on exactly the same basis as UK students. LAHP expects to make full awards (fees and maintenance) to successful EU candidates in 2016. In exceptional circumstances an EU award may be made to a successful candidate on a fees-only basis.
  • To be eligible for LAHP studentship in the forthcoming recruitment round you must either be:
    - applying to commence a programme of postgraduate study in the 2020/21 academic year, which starts in September/October 2020, or
    - if you have already commenced doctoral study, you may apply for funding for the remainder of your study, providing that, at the start of the AHRC award, you will have at least 50% of the period of study remaining. Awards cannot be deferred and selected candidates will be assumed to be starting their studies in September/October 2016 unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Application procedure

ALL eligible candidates wishing to apply will need to complete an AHRC/LAHP Application form and submit the completed form to the LAHP office via email. For more information about the application procedure, please go to: http://www.lahp.ac.uk/apply-for-a-studentship/

For new students who plan to start a postgraduate research degree in 2020/21, you will ALSO need to ensure that you submit a complete admissions application to the College for a place on the postgraduate research degree programme.

PLEASE NOTE: students who have already applied for admission to King's, and those who previously applied but deferred entry to 2020-21, and those who have already commenced their MPhil/PhD research degree programme, will NOT be required to submit an admissions application to King's again.
