Dr Monica Malik Bursary 2019-20

The Dr Monica Malik Bursary is a new bursary designed to help support a postgraduate student from a forced migrant background undertake their studies at King's in 2019.

What is the Dr Monica Malik Bursary?

King's College London is delighted to announce the launch of the Dr Monica Malik Bursary. This generous bequest will be used to establish bursaries to support a home postgraduate student from a forced migrant background to study at King's. This fund is intended to give students the opportunity to undertake study in an internationally recognised centre of excellence.  

The scholarship is open to all applicants who meet the criteria below and is worth £10,000. 

What does the bursary offer?

The busary is worth £10,000 and isintended to help towards the cost of your tuition fees and living costs for the year. 

Am I eligible?

The winner will be selected on the basis of a personal statement as well as demonstrable financial need. 

Eligible students must:

  • have accepted a firm offer to study at King's from Sept 2019;
  • be from a forced migrant background (refugee, limited leave to remain, humanitarian protection) and be able to evidence this through your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) or a visa sticker in your passport;

  • be undertaking a postgraduate taught (excluding distance learning/online) programme - preference will be given to the following areas of study:

- Law

- Engineering

- Dentistry

- Nursing

 - Midwifery

- Pharmacy

- Pharmacology

- Specialist postgraduate training for medical professionals.

  • have applied for all eligible support through Student Finance England/Wales/N.Ireland/SAAS and given consent to share this information with King’s;

  • have provided a written personal statement;
  • be willing to provide an end of year report and a letter of thanks to the estate of the donor.

How do I apply?

  • The application form and suporting evidence should be completed, scanned and emailed to funding@kcl.ac.uk.

  • You must submit a word/pdf version of your supporting statement. This should be emailed to funding@kcl.ac.uk.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on 26 July 2019.

When will I know the outcome of my application?

Provided your application form has been accurately completed and the appropriate documentary evidence supplied, you will be notified of the decision by 31 August 2019.  

The award of a bursary to an offer-holder will be conditional upon:

  • the offer holder accepting their place at King's, and enrolling in September 2019; 
  • the fulfilment by the offer holder of all conditions attached to their offer of a place at King’s by 31 August 2019.
