The Student Success Department empowers all students to actively explore and define their own success. By listening to our students we stand as advocates for their needs and add value to their experience through delivery of a range of projects, interventions and events which maximise engagement and foster a sense of belonging to the King’s community.
We champion student success through meaningful collaboration with both students and staff to deliver a quality experience for students from all backgrounds.
Delivered in partnership with Citizens UK, this project trains students and staff in the skills needed to build a relational culture on campus.
The Ceremonies & Events team organise 24 graduation ceremonies and receptions a year for over 8,000 students and their 17,000 guests, plus the College annual Honorary Degree Ceremony and Term Time Photography sessions.
A unique opportunity for a diverse group of 100 students, reflective of the King’s community, to co-create student experience projects and initiatives.

Our students, who are fully-funded and trained by King’s, will commit 240 hours of service by working with a community partner, like your organisation. Learn more about becoming a community partner.
Supporting project delivery and day-to-day activity, students will bring fresh and diverse perspectives, an eagerness to learn and a drive to create social change. The training we provide to students – many of whom are from an under-represented background – will help to develop them as civically minded leaders and prepare them for their career beyond education.

King’s Civic Leadership Academy is a leadership development programme for 2nd year undergraduate students who are committed to creating positive change in society.
The programme offers a unique opportunity, that will enable our students to develop the skills and experience that will support them in becoming highly employable, civically minded and engaged citizens.
All Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught students are allocated a personal tutor who is a member of academic staff from within their faculty. Personal tutors are a student’s primary academic point of contact, and can offer support and guidance, discuss academic progress, or signpost to specialist support services.
The Personal Tutoring Manager supports personal tutors across the university by delivering training and producing resources and communications, and overseeing systems.

Following consultation with colleagues at other universities, the Student Outcomes Service in the Student Success Department launched the Inclusive Education Partners Programme (IEP) at King's in February 2020. This two-part programme embeds both BME student and BME staff insights into the core work done at King's to close attainment gaps and provides visibility to BME staff and students in this space.
The IEP programme is a leadership and professional development opportunity. It aims to engage, empower, and upskill 18 talented BME undergraduate students across our nine faculties, who are paid to provide a student perspective on issues relating to race inequality at King's and collaborate with their faculty on the inclusive education agenda. Students on the programme dedicate a maximum of 10 hours per month for this role, receive guidance and supervisory support from a member of the Student Outcomes team and tailored training to help them to complete designated tasks. The training programme is delivered in collaboration with our Student Union and services across King's to complement student's professional development.
Students on the programme gain fast-tracked access to internal opportunities, including the King's Experience London Award and get to work with senior members of faculty staff and fellow students. The first cohort of student partners have been working on understanding BME student experience at a faculty level, carried out over 50 peer to peer conversations and have created faculty-specific action plans informed by these insights. They are in the process of delivering short term actions to diversify curricula with incoming initiatives such as Content Flags to be rolled out in SSPP to acknowledge sensitive readings. NMS Student Partners are co-creating resources for personal tutors on how to best support BME learners with guidance from centralised professional services.
In 2020/21, our newly appointed student partners will play a key role in building sustainability around this area of work and will have the opportunity to contribute new perspectives to the agenda.

The Student Communications function delivers a range of face to face and digital projects over the academic year, including Campus Conversations, Thriving, not Surviving lecture series and all student email communications.

KCLSU Wellbeing supports you to take care of yourself and get the best of you and your King’s community through the Wellbeing Hub and Peer Support.
King’s welcomes 21,000 students each year, we oversee the project centrally working with stakeholders across the university to provide core business processes (online enrolment & ID card collection), welcome events and communications to new students. The team also work closely with Faculties to deliver engaging and informative inductions during Welcome Week.
