Biomedical and Life Sciences
Biomedical and life sciences operate at the frontier of human knowledge, pioneering new technologies or new applications to understand, model, treat or prevent conditions that limit or inhibit life. Studying biomedical and life sciences at King’s College London will put you at the heart of one of the leading centres of bioscience in the UK – and give you the flexibility to explore your interests as they develop.
For over 60 years King’s has been at the heart of advances in biomedical and life sciences, achieving numerous world firsts along the way. As one of Europe’s largest centres for research and training in these fields, King’s is renowned as a centre of excellence and expertise in a wide range of basic and applied sciences.
At the undergraduate level, most of our life sciences courses share a common first year – everyone on these courses has the same required and optional modules. Not only does that mean that you will be working alongside a diverse range of students, but you can choose to switch course at the end of year one if you have discovered a new interest or found a more appropriate direction for your talents. Several of these courses also feature an option to extend to a four-year MSci or to take an extra-mural year, between years two and three, either in industry or with an approved academic research institute.
At the postgraduate level, we offer students with a background in science the opportunity to study at the very cutting edge of biomedical science in areas that are contributing to enhancing the quality of people’s lives, from our unique courses in Aerospace Medicine and Space Physiology to our advanced expertise in medical imaging and molecular science. Few areas of science are as rewarding or as immediately relevant to the societies in which we live. The programmes often include an extended research project, which enables you to gain in-depth practical experience within one or more of King’s world class research laboratories.
Joining us, you will study with leading scientists and work alongside fellow students from around the world – people who are going to make important things happen in a variety of fields.
