BTEC entry requirements

At King's College London, we will consider Level 3 BTECs for entry for the vast majority of undergraduate courses.  However, applicants should be aware for most of our courses (apart from Nursing and Midwifery programmes) it will also be necessary to undertake certain A-levels to ensure that subject specific entry requirements are fully met.

The tables below demonstrate comparable combinations of  A-level and BTEC requirements for courses at King's, however please see the course specific pages on our online prospectus for information regarding compulsory subjects for entry.

Combination of A-levels and BTECs

Combination of BTEC and A-levels will be considered for entry. Examples of how entry requirements may be met with BTECs and A-levels are outlined below.

Please be aware that one or two additional A-levels may be required in specific subjects to fully meet the entry requirements, even with an Extended Diploma. 

When a subject specific BTEC is required, the applicant must ensure that they have undertaken this to fully meet the entry requirements.

A*AA

  • Extended Diploma at grade D*DD with 14 modules at Distinction (additional A-levels may be required to fully meet the subject specific entry criteria)

  • Diploma at grade D*D with 10 modules at Distinction plus an additional A-level at grade A

  • Diploma at grade DD with 8 modules at Distinction plus an additional A-level at grade A*

  • Subsidiary Diploma at grade D* with 5 modules at Distinction plus two additional A-levels at grades AA 

  • Subsidiary Diploma at grade D with 4 modules at Distinction and two additional A-levels at grades A*A

AAA

  • Extended Diploma with DDD with 13 modules at Distinction (additional A-levels may be required to fully meet the subject specific entry criteria)

  • Diploma at DD with 8 modules at Distinction with an additional A-level at grade A

  • Subsidiary Diploma with grade D with 4 modules at Distinction and two additional A-levels at grades AA

AAB

  • Extended Diploma with DDD with 12 modules at Distinction (additional A-levels may be required to fully meet the subject specific entry criteria)

  • Diploma at DD with 8 modules at Distinction with an additional A-level at grade B

  • Diploma at DM with 6 modules at Distinction with an additional A-level at grade A

  • Subsidiary Diploma at grade D with 4 modules at Distinction and two additional A-levels at grades AB

  • Subsidiary Diploma at grade M and two additional A-levels at grades AA

ABB

  • Extended Diploma with DDM with 11 modules at Distinction (additional A-levels may be required to fully meet the subject specific entry criteria)

  • Diploma at DM with 6 modules at Distinction with an additional A-level at grade B

  • Diploma at DM with 4 modules at Distinction with an additional A-level at grade A

  • Subsidiary Diploma at grade D with 4 modules at Distinction and two additional A-levels at grades BB

  • Subsidiary Diploma at grade M and two additional A-levels at grades AB

BBB

  • Extended Diploma with DDM with 10 modules at Distinction (additional A-levels may be required to fully meet the subject specific entry criteria)

  • Diploma at DM with 4 modules at Distinction with an additional A-level at grade B.

  • Subsidiary Diploma at grade M with 4 modules at Distinction and two additional A-levels at grades BB
