Other requirements
If considering applying to study medicine, we advise you check details in this website - GMC Outcomes for Graduates – that sets out the skills, procedures and levels of competence newly qualified doctors must have, so they can practise safely when they start work.
This programme is open to applications from Home fee payers only.
Entry requirements
-
A minimum 2:1 (upper second class honours) BSc Hons undergraduate degree (or international equivalent) in a Healthcare profession (such as nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, pharmacy, dentistry).
- At least two years full-time NHS experience working in a patient-facing role in the field of qualification.
There are no specific A-level requirements for this programme.
The UCAT
All applicants are required to sit the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) prior to applying to this programme. Please note the UCAT must be taken in the same year you apply in order to be valid. Please refer to the UCAT website for details on registration and test dates.
For the most recent admissions cycle, applications were initially ranked using UCAT performance. No minimum UCAT threshold score was applied.
As applications are considered competitively, the level of UCAT performance required for interview may vary from year to year depending on the strength of the applicant cohort. Selection processes are reviewed annually and may be subject to change.
The overall UCAT score is considered as part of the shortlisting process. Individual UCAT subtest scores are not considered separately, and the Situational Judgement Test (SJT) is not taken into account when shortlisting.
Applicants selected for interview are typically invited on a rolling basis from December.
Non academic requirements
Occupational Health clearance: Required for successful applicants. All offers of a place, and continued enrolment, are made subject to satisfactory Occupational Health clearance.
Enhanced criminal conviction check: Required for successful applicants. All offers of a place, and continued enrolment, are made subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
Academic achievement
You should carefully check that you will meet the minimum academic standards before making an application. Please note that many applicants meet the minimum requirements and so all applications are considered within a competitive environment.

Selection process
Shortlisting
Applications are initially ranked using UCAT performance. Applicants with the highest rankings are then assessed against the programme's entry requirements, including the requirement to hold a 2:1 degree classification (or equivalent) in a healthcare professions degree, evidence of at least two years' full-time equivalent patient-facing healthcare experience, the personal statement, academic reference and any other entry requirements for the course. Following this assessment, selected applicants are invited to interview. As Medicine is a highly competitive programme, the number of applicants considered at each stage and the selection process may vary from year to year and are reviewed annually.
The interview
No offers are made without an interview. Interviews are usually held between December and April and applicants must be available for interview in order to be considered for admission. During the current Admissions cycle, interviews will be conducted remotely. A large number of applications are received for Medicine and, although we recognise that this can be an anxious time, all applications are carefully considered. Applicants should therefore not expect a final decision following interview until the admissions cycle has concluded in May.
If you are invited to interview, further information regarding the interview format and process will be provided through the King's Apply portal. Interviews form an important part of the selection process and are designed to assess a range of attributes, including communication skills, ethical reasoning, understanding of current and relevant healthcare issues, motivation for studying Medicine and overall suitability for the programme and the medical profession. Interviewers have no prior knowledge of candidates before they meet them and complete standardised assessment criteria for all candidates.
We operate a "fit-to-sit" policy for interviews and are therefore unable to take mitigating circumstances into account when reviewing interview performance. If any issue arises during your interview that you believe may have affected your performance, you should notify the Admissions team as soon as possible.
Receiving a decision
There continues to be considerable pressure on the available places for students wishing to study Medicine. Applications each year for our undergraduate medical programmes are around 5000 for a total of roughly 520 places. In the most recent admissions cycle, we received approximately 180 applications for 10 places. Around 30 applicants were interviewed. We aim to notify all applicants of final decisions by the end of May at the latest.
